Michael Filipek is a Rochester, New York based artist with a B.F.A in Digital illustration from the American Academy of Art. His mixed media works fulfill a sculptural form through the introduction of embedded tools and heavy use of texture. Ready-made and used instruments take on a new likeness when Michael arranges them and paints over them. The work is not intended to convey a message, but to build a connection with fundamental parts of creation, tools and material. Through repetition and excessive build up of paints Michael instills the importance of tools and material. From a young age Michael has been fascinated with the artifacts of building projects, and as his own creations grew, so did the connection to the instruments and elements that made it happen.
